I saw another video I am going to try, seems simple. Pound out the stud for a lug nut. Insert a half inch bolt and nut, back off the nut and it should push on the lug nut flange and separate the hub.
Radial ballbearing vs deep groove
Jul 29, 2012 — I need to replace the rear wheel bearings on my 2002 Ford Explorer (150000 miles)... The Service Advisor at the Ford.
A deep groove in a Radial Ball Bearing refers to the design of the inner and outer raceways (also referred to as races or rings), which have a deep concave spherical profile matching the profile of the balls' surface. This design provides a larger contact area, allowing the bearing to handle higher axial and radial loads. Deep Groove Ball Bearings are versatile and commonly used in automotive and industrial machinery.
That sounds really frustrating. It is always something stupid like this that makes the simplest jobs take for ever. You could try putting a bolt in the hole and screw it in just a little then hit the bolt with a hammer to separate the hub from the flange. You could also use an air hammer. In both cases, use lots of heat. if you are still having trouble feel free to shoot us a DM. Best of luck!
Thrust ball bearings support axial loads parallel to the shaft and are used where the primary load is along the axis of rotation. Radial ball bearings, on the other hand, handle radial loads perpendicular to the shaft and can also manage some axial loads. Radial bearings are suited for high-speed applications, while thrust ball bearings are specialised to provide axial load support.
2023513 — Part of testing for a bad wheel bearing is to jack the car up, set it on stands, grab the wheel at the 6:00 and 12:00 positions, and push-pull it.

I am hoping that someone here has a remedy. I just don't know what else I could do do to separate the housing and remove the bearing assembly. Is there something I am missing? The videos made it look so easy and I am mechanically inclined, but this has me stumped.

lubricate something to put a lubricant on something such as the parts of a machine, to help them move smoothly synonym grease, oil.
Thanks Sundae. I tried that and it didn't work. I don't have access to an air hammer. I went to the video that was suggested by another member that suggested using the power steering and a socket and extension. That didn't work either, it just bent the extension. But I couldn't find anything to brace the extension against to make a straight push, so it bent.

Deep Groove Ball Bearings, or Deep Groove Radial Ball Bearings, are essential components in various types of machinery. Designed to enable smooth and efficient operation with little maintenance, Deep Groove Bearings are characterised by deep raceway grooves inside the inner and outer rings. The design of Deep Groove Ball Bearings allows them to accommodate both radial and axial loads in both directions, making them versatile for use in a wide range of applications. Deep Groove Radial Ball bearings can withstand high-speed rotations and are available in many designs, sizes, and variants. They are the most commonly used bearing type, serving applications in multiple industries worldwide. Deep Groove Ball Bearings play a crucial role in maintaining smooth and reliable mechanical operations, whether used in electric motors, gearboxes, engines, machine tools, or endless equipment applications. We stock a range of metric and imperial Deep Groove Ball Bearings from world-renowned brands such as SKF, FAG, NSK and Timken. Discover our range of Radial Ball Bearings below.
Deep Groove Ball Bearings handle both radial and axial loads. They are suitable for high-speed applications and are commonly used in industries like automotive and industrial machinery due to their ability to manage mixed load types efficiently. Radial ball bearings operate at high speeds with low friction. Known for durability, they minimise wear and reduce maintenance costs.
That sounds like a huge pain. That stinks you are having so many problems. Any luck with the technique you mentioned above?
Yes Sundae, it worked like a charm, came right off. This method puts an incredible outward pressure on the assembly. Thee were two methods of doing this; one was to pound out four lug nut studs and replace them with four bolts and nuts. I didn't use that one because I found another method that only required pounding out one stud and inserting one bolt and nut. That was the one that worked.
Wheel Bearing Replacement. Learn how to diagnose and replace the wheel bearing hub assembly on almost any truck or car. This is a 2004 Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra but the process will be very similar for replacing any wheel bearing hub assembly with an axle running through it. I was able to purchase a new hub assembly from AutoZone for $120. Duralast Wheel Bearing/Hub Assembly-Frnt. We will provide a review of the wheel hub assembly after testing it for some time before recommending you to purchase it. Other wheel hub assembly companies: Moog, NAPA, Driveworks, Timken. I have seen videos of this process and still find it impossible to separate the split housing. I have broken two chisels and beat this thing half to death with no success.
