Everyone I know who has a Silverado has had their front bearings go out, so when I heard a noise coming from the front left side I was pretty sure what it was before I went to the mechanic. With everyone I know having a problem, there should be a recall and Chevy should be paying to fix this problem. I am looking a new trucks, right now and Chevy is not one of them. I love my truck, but to many mechanical issues on a truck that has been driven lightly and pampered!

I JUST WENT TO TOWN AND PULLED INTO A GAS STATION AND GOT GAS WENT TO PULL OUT AND THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL MADE A VERY LOUD CLUNKING NOISY, AND THE TRUCK WAS NOT DRIVABLE, SO I HAD IT TOWED TO A DEALER, WHICH TOLD ME THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL BEARING LOCK UP AND THE RIGHT SIDE WAS VERY LOOSE, SO BOTH WHEEL BEARING WENT OUT AT LESS THAN 50,000 MILES THIS IS JUNK.

ok my experience with the is really simple, I bought this truck used with 72000 miles on it, it now had 132,000 miles I have owned it just 3 yrs,and put 5 wheel bearings in it as of today, first 3 were at a discount parts store, they covered the second one for free, the third they split with me, the fourth I went elsewhere thinking it was cheap parts, the last one I did myself I needed to see the issue first hand,, its definitely a design issue, inner and outer races and bearing set too close together no matter what the diameter of the bearings or surfaces, center of weight is outboard of all bearings and there is no way to add any grease,, designed obsolescence at its best,,, I want my old truck back, a Ford with 235,00 miles and never had new bearings I repacked them occasionally.....

Heard a scraping noise not related to the brakes. Wasn't sure but then when I turned the wheel it made a loug clunk noice. I was convinced that it was not driveable so I had it towed to the dealer. Mechanic said it was 'catastrophic failure of the bearings' and that the wheel would have fallen off if I would have driven it. Cost me $620 to fix. NOW three weeks later OTHER side is going. I have always driven GM, my dad is a retired GM employee, I feel obligated to go with GM. But even he has said don't buy GM anymore, he wouldn't! I have always had problems with the front end of this truck. Each time I get it fixed I think "OH.. that was the problem and NOW it's fixed" but that's not the case and it keeps getting worse. I had to replace the rotors twice, brake pads three times, U joint went out, tie rod had to be replaced. This is a piece of JUNK!

THIS HAPPENED UNEXPECTEDLY WITHOUT WARNING WHILE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN. NO PREVIOUS DETECTION BY THE DEALER WHEN THE TRUCK WAS TAKEN IN FOR THE 4 X 4 CONTROL MODULE AND SHIFT MOTOR REPLACEMENT. THEY TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND MISSED IT. I HAD TO HAVE THE REPAIR DONE AT THE LOCAL TRANSMISSION SUSPENSION SHOP BECAUSE I COULD NOT DRIVE THE TRUCK ANY FURTHER. THE BEARING IS A CHEVY DEALER ONLY ITEM, $540.00 YOUR STUCK, PLUS LABOR. CHEVY REPS DISCUSSED THE REPAIRS AND DECIDED NOT TO DO ANY "GOOD FAITH REIMBURSEMENT BECAUSE THEY DO NOT WANT TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO USE OTHER THAN THE CHEVY DEALERS FOR REPAIRS. I GUESS I WILL TAKE MY "GOOD FAITH" BACK TO TOYOTA TRUCKS, AGAIN.

2013 Ram 1500FrontWheel Bearing

Strange that such a major and expensive repair is necessary at such low mileage. This vehicle was purchased as a certified used vehicle, but this item is not covered over 50,000 miles.

I advise anyone to not buy this kind of vehicle. It is obviously poorly engineered and the company does not stand behind it's vehicles.

Its amazing to me that one left front tire that I have is making noise and the other front right tire actually manages to fall off the vehicle. Bearings being replaced from one side must be checked and replaced at the same time from the other side people. This is an expensive fix. I love my Chevy, but I think that they know about this problem and arent' saying anything yet.....

It sounds like i have the best of everyone on this site. I actually got over 70,000 miles out of my wheel bearing. Reminds me of my 1993 chevy blazer that cost me thousands to maintain. I had a car full of kids when i noticed it. Thank god i made it home. It actually sounded like my brakes until i got back in town. Then i knew it was my bearing. I'm fixing it myself because of the cost and time. I have a ice fishing adventure that's 2hrs away and i need it fixed before the local garage can get to it. Sounds like i might as well do both. I'll just have to wait another month to spend another $200 and waste my time. Thanks chevy. Like this isn't dangerous.

I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado 4X4 Crewcab. We were driving and I noticed that the ABS light came on. It was very cold outside because of the time of year. The ABS light went off. I thought it was strange. I pulled into a parking lot and turned off the heater and the stereo and rolled down the window. I could hear a clicking sound in the front end. I got out to inspect the truck and find the problem. I couldn't see anything. I drove out of the parking lot and down the road slowly. The truck was pulling to the left. At that point I realized that the front left wheel was locking up on the icy road. I had the vehicle towed to the nearest dealer, which was a real inconvenience. Here is my real BITCH!!! I'm a mechanic. I have been a mechanic since 1987. I went to the dealer and they told me that the front wheel bearing was shot. They said they would replace it. While I was there I noticed that the brake rotor had wear to it on the inside. I asked if they replaced that as well. They said no. That is a wear item. I asked them since the bearing went out and cocked the axel why would they not cover the rotor since the truck only had 30,000 miles on it. The mechanic looked at me and said don't let it bother you. I replace two or three of these wheel bearings every week. It doesn't matter if it is a two wheel drive, four wheel drive, one ton, they all have problems with the wheel bearings. I asked the mechanic since it is up on the hoist why don't you replace the other side too. He said we can't do that because it is not bad. I explained to the mechanic since it took out the brake rotor and he felt that I should replace it because it is a safety issue. I said that General Motors should stand behind it and replace it and pay for it. The mechanic said I don't know if I can let the truck leave the shop like this. I told him that will be the day when you hold my truck hostage for a $500 brake job that your company should stand behind. I advise anyone to not buy this kind of vehicle. It is obviously poorly engineered and the company does not stand behind it's vehicles.
