Hey all, my moms machine hasn’t been used in 20 some years and she’s noticing some issues now that she’s pulled it out. Any ideas?

What are ways to nicely seal the ends of elastic shock cord? I usually resort to using a lighter but it seems there ought to be something else that could work better. Usually those plastic things you stick on the end are pretty bulky.
