SKF Edge products meet ISO and DIN standards, consisting of a rubber OD with specially designed seal lips to prevent downtime. Offering three times the pump rate of other solutions, SKF Edge extends service life and handles both dynamic runout and shaft-to-bore misalignment.

SKF V-Ring seals offer a simple-to-install solution for rotating shaft applications, including for uses as a secondary seal in highly-contaminated environments.

Lubricating oils, particularly relatively low-viscosity oils, are much more difficult to retain than greases.  In many grease lubricated applications, a non-spring-loaded sealing lip design or a V-ring can adequately retain the grease. More demanding applications may require HMS5 or CRW1 spring-loaded radial shaft seals. For oil retention, HMS5 or CRW1 spring-loaded radial shaft seals are recommended in order to achieve the necessary radial load and resistance to dynamic runout and shaft-to-bore misalignment for a satisfactory sealing performance. CRW1 seals are designed with SKF WAVE lips to provide improved pumping ability, regardless of the direction of shaft rotation.

Different MIL SPEC and other o-rings in a wide range of materials, Metric or Imperial (inch) sizes, and hardnesses are offered as part of our own (AVIATIONEU NEW ERA) product lines. Those of MS29513 series are made of Nitrile Rubber, the most commonly used rubber material due to its compatibility with most environments, good mechanical properties compared with other elastomers, high wear resistance as well as its relative cost compared to other rubber materials. The MS29513 o-rings are resistant to aircraft fuels (JP-4, JP-5), petroleum-based products over a temperature range of -40°F to +250°F, hydraulic fluids, most silicone fluids but not resistant to automotive fuels, weathering, sunlight and ozone. A small amount of fuel proof grease applied to these o-rings helps the installation and operation of primers.

The German DIN 3771 standard refers to all O-rings as sealing elements for fluid technology and identifies O-Ring sizes by their Inner Diameter (ID) &Cross Section (C/S). This standard has essentially been incorporated into the international standard ISO 3601 which sets the globally relevant O-ring dimensions and uniform rules for installation spaces and the properties of the O-rings. It defines metric O-rings according to the same dimension chart as DIN 3771 while it has been extended to include O-rings in imperial dimensions. ISO 3601 also goes beyond the German standard in the area of materials containing material requirements for O-rings that far exceed those of DIN 3771.

In many applications, the exclusion of contaminants is just as important as lubricant retention. Seals with an auxiliary lip, like the HMSA10 seals, are appropriate for these applications or HDDF metal face seals in case of extremely tough operating conditions.

National oil seal cross reference chart

A grease seal, often called an oil or dirt seal, is a type of seal utilized to retain grease in a case or housing. Grease seals close spaces between stationary and moving components in mechanical equipment, helping prevent lubricant escape. Preventing harmful containments from entering machinery is another critical function of a grease seal. Oil and grease seals are available in numerous lip materials. Popular materials include felt, leather, urethane, nitrile, polyacrylate, ethylene-acrylic or polyacrylic, silicone, fluoro-elastomer, tetrafluoro-ethylene propylene and PTFE. Cleveland Grease Seals are intended for use in Cleveland Wheel Assemblies.

Nitrile/Buna-N (NBR) is presently the seal industry’s most widely used elastometer. Buna-N o-rings (also referred to as NBR) and Nitrile o-rings are the most widely used in the word and default choice for basic applications because of their low cost, good mechanical performance with resistance to water, most basic oils, lubricants and some fuels, many pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Buna-N o-rings are not recommended for exposure to sunlight, UV light, ozone and general outdoor weathering or hash chemicals, acids, keytones and many others. They combine excellent resistance to petroleum-based oils and fuels, silicone greases, hydraulic fluids, water and alcohols and feature a good balance of desirable working properties such as low compression set, high tensile strength and high abrasion resistance. M83461 series Nitrile/Buna-N rubber o-rings are flexible, preformed o-rings specially designed for aviation use. They can expand as conditions change, filling gaps and preventing dangerous leaks. They flex slightly to fill gaps and are often used at connection points where hoses or tubing connect to a port to prevent fluid leaks. They provide a better dynamic performance than MS28775 o-rings with excellent resistance to petroleum-based products, hydraulic fluids, most silicone fluids and fuels. They can be used with MIL-H-5606 Fluid, Aircraft Hydraulic Fluid.

HM series grease seals have been a trusted solution amongst engineers for decades. These seals divert contamination away from critical bearings and were developed to withstand a grease purge when the lip is pointing toward the air side.

As their name indicates, SKF axial shaft seals were designed to seal axially against a counterface perpendicular to the shaft or pin. Different series include:

SKF axial clamp seals are produced in two different designs. Axial clamp seals of the CT1 design have a flat face sealing lip and are held in position by a screw-type clamp. The maximum permissible axial displacement (operating interference) with respect to the counterface is +2,4 mm. Those of the CT4 design are extra wide and have a double clamp. The maximum operating interference is +4,8 mm. The sealing lip is flat as for the CT1 design.
