Metal grinding noise when reversing and turningreddit

sw-vw: Hi-I just left my house and there was a small grinding sound coming from the underneath of my car, very intermittant, then went away.I then got back to my house after driving about 5 miles, went to reverse up my driveway and the noise came back, but louder?!Sounded like it may have been exhaust!? but why would it make a grinding metal-on-metal sound?Any help much appreciated.Ian

scooter perv: This may be way off but check the drive beltsI just had this noise and it was mainly when reversing you could hear it more which I put down to the low revs when reversing. It was a scraping noise which sounded like metal on metal but it was the belt slipping.

herbster: Check all your mounts, might have a bit too much wear and about to go, don't forget the top mounts on the suspension all four of them, could be something really simple but worth giving the mounts a good shake about to check before you carry on using it just in case. Jack the front wheels off floor too and check with rotating the wheels both directions the noise might come back tehn, good luck  :smiley:
