The SKF TKBA 40 Belt Alignment Tool offers an easy and accurate method to adjust the machinery so that the grooves of the V-belt pulleys are accurately aligned.Principle of operationThe TKBA 40 consists of two units that attach magnetically to the grooves of each pulley. One unit, the laser unit, emits a laser line that is projected onto the receiver unit. The receiver unit has three target areas with three reference lines, the top reference line and the two bottom reference lines. Depending on the laser pattern projected on the target area, it is possible to determine the type of misalignment and how to correct it. Belt alignment is easily performed by adjusting the moveable machine(s) until the laser line coincides with the three reference lines on the receiver unit.Vertical angle misalignmentHorizontal angle misalignmentParallel misalignmentBelt alignment toolTechnical dataTransmitter UnitType of laserRed laser diodeLaser1× Built-in class 2 laser, <1mW, 632nmLaser line length3 m at 2 m (9.8 ft at 6.6 ft)Measurement Accuracy Angular Better than 0,2°Measurement Accuracy Offset Better than 0,5 mm (0.02 in)Measurement distance50 mm to 6 000 mm (2 in to 20 ft)ControlLaser on/off switchHousing MaterialExtruded aluminiumColourSilver, blue, blackTransmitter unit dimensions70 × 74 × 61 mm (2.8 × 2.9 × 2.4 in)Transmitter unit weight320 g (0.7 lbs)Receiver UnitHousing MaterialExtruded aluminiumColourSilver, grey, blueReflector dimensionsN/AReceiver unit dimensions96 × 74 × 61 mm (3.8 × 2.9 × 2.4 in)Receiver unit weight270 g (0.6 lbs)FixturesMounting“Magnetic, groove mounted (optional side adapter TMEB A2)”V-guidesSize 1: 22 mm, short rods (3× pairs)Size 2: size 22 mm, long rods (3× pairs)Size 3: size 40 mm, short rods (3× pairs)Size 4: size 40 mm, long rods (3× pairs)Battery and PowerBattery2× AAA Alkaline type IEC LR03Operation time20 hours of continuous operationSize and WeightCarrying Case dimensions260 × 85 × 180 mm (10.3 × 3.4 × 7.0 in)The total weight (incl. case)1,3 kg (2.9 lb)Operating RequirementsOperating temperature0 to 40 °C (32 to 104 °F)Storage temperature–20 to +65 °C (–4 to +150 °F)Relative Humidity10 to 90% RH non-condensingIP ratingIP 40Calibration certificateValid for two yearsCase contents1× TKBA 40 transmitter Unit1× TKBA 40 receiver Unit2× AAA batteries4× sizes of V-guides, 3× of each size 1× printed Instructions for Use1× Calibration certificateApplication rangeInstructions for useSelecting V-guidesFour sizes of V-guides are supplied with the TKBA 40 to fit pulley grooves of most widths and types. Precise alignment of belt-driven machinery is essential to increase belt and pulley life, reduce vibration, and reduce energy costs. Belt alignment is easily performed by adjusting the moveable machine(s) until the laser line coincides with the three reference lines on the receiver unit.
AlignmentBefore aligning the pulleys it is important that the pulleys are mounted correctly on the shafts and that the shafts are straight. Buckled pulleys will have a detrimental effect on the alignment quality. Adjust one (or both) pulley machine(s) step by step until the laser line hit the three reference lines of the receiver unit.Step 1. Elimination of vertical angle misalignmentPlace shims beneath the front or rear feet of the moveable machine until the laser line is parallel to the reference lines (as per figure 11).
