Cage needle bearings consist of cylindrical needle rollers assembled into a cage or retainer. The cage/retainer may be molded plastic. Common materials include polyamide (nylon), acetal (delrin) or other engineered plastics. Alternately, the cage/retainer may be made from low carbon steel via metal stamping and forming processes. Sometimes the cage/retainer is machined. Other materials include brass or stainless steel. Needle rollers are most commonly manufactured from bearing grade chrome steel (52100 / GCr15). This material is widely specified due to its high strength, hardness and wear resistance.

Hartford Technologies is a multinational supplier of cage needle bearings for automotive applications such as steering columns and seat adjusters. They are used in many industrial bearing applications in which the components that function as inner and outer races are larger items (e.g. a shaft or housing) or are integrated at different points in the assembly process.
