Two floating offshore wind projects to be developed in South Korea and totalling 2,250 MW have secured a transmission service agreement (TSA) with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). The Swedish renewable company Hexicon AB has signed a TSA with KEPCO for its 1,125 MW MunmuBaram floating offshore wind project, while developers Mainstream Renewable Power and Ocean Winds have secured grid connection for their 1,125 MW KF Wind floating wind project (consisting of 375 MW East Blue Power and 750 MW KF Wind) .  Both projects are located off the coast of Ulsan, in southern South Korea. Both projects were also recently awarded an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval by the Korean Ministry of Environment. My 2002 Silverado needs new front wheel bearings... badly. I have been planning to do them myself, but some general wrenching fatigue, lack of appropriate Torx bits, and a severe lack of time have kept me form doing the job. I've been "one weekend away" from fixing it for about a month and a half, and I'm starting to think of farming it out to someone else to do the job. I haven't been to a mechanic in forever though. I already have the parts, what should I expect to pay for labor?

Newbuild Wind Turbine Installation Vessel (WTIV) ordering has been very limited recently; only 1 order has been placed globally since Apr-23. In China, ordering has dried up with the market now oversupplied, though in Europe the picture appears more complex. Turbine upsizing concerns and constrained shipyard capacity are, among other reasons, impacting the ordering of newbuild European spec WTIVs, despite the very firm market conditions. Jan Rosenow The statement that Goldwind’s GWH252-16MW wind turbine is the world’s largest wind turbine is not entirely accurate anymore. While the GWH252-16MW was indeed one of the largest when it came online in July 2023, it has been surpassed by more recent developments. As of June 2024, the largest installed wind turbine is the 18 MW offshore wind turbine by Dongfang Electric Corporation in Guangdong province, China. This turbine has a rotor diameter of 260 meters and a swept area of 53,000 square meters, making it currently the most powerful and largest in terms of dimensions and output. Thus, while Goldwind’s GWH252-16MW was a significant milestone, it is no longer the largest in the world by power rating or dimensions.

This is the world’s largest wind turbine: Goldwind’s GWH252-16MW intelligent wind turbine has a rotor diameter of 252 meters (827 feet). It also has a swept area of around 50,000 square meters (538,195 square feet) – the equivalent of seven standard football pitches. The turbine’s hub is 146 meters (479 feet) high – that’s as tall as a 50-story building. The 16 MW wind turbine was installed in June 2023 at the Zhangpu Liuao Phase 2 offshore wind farm in the southeastern Fujian Province and came online on July 19 2023. State-owned power company China Three Gorges (CTG) is developing and building Zhangpu Liuao Phase 2.

Most mechanics won't let you use your own parts now a days. So that may be problematic as well. I'd say about $450 plus parts. They will will want to replace the whole hub and not just the bearing. So $250-$300 for the hub.

Yeah, the going rate for good labor is $150-$250/hour these days. And they'll want to use their own parts unless you already have a great relationship with the shop.

Sigh. It really needs ball joints too, and I don't really have an extra $1,000 to just drop on something like this. I guess some late night wrenching is in order.

Is this the breakthrough deal for Mingyang Smart Energy in Europe? Luxcara has signed a preferred supplier deal for 16 of the Chinese firm's 18.5MW offshore wind turbines for the 296MW Waterkant project in the German North Sea. Installation is due in 2028. Holger Matthiesen (pictured), project director at Luxcara and managing director for project company Waterkant Energy, said: “By deciding for the world’s most powerful offshore wind turbine, we will be able to expedite Germany’s energy transition while fostering much-needed competition in the industry. In any case, management, operation and control of the Waterkant wind farm will remain entirely in the hands of an independent German company.” Given the debate about Chinese turbine makers in Europe, there's plenty of discussion on this to come in the days ahead. Chinese state-owned manufacturer Dongfang Electric has completed the production of a mammoth 26MW offshore wind turbine, by far the most powerful turbine yet to roll off the production line. ? The wind turbine’s hub center is 185 metres high, rotor diameter exceeds 310 metres. ? Designed to operate in areas with wind speeds of 8 metres per second (m/s) and above, the turbine is also built to withstand typhoons. ? if it were to operate in an area with average wind speeds of 10m/s, a single unit would be capable of generating 100GWh of clean energy each year – enough to power 55,000 homes on its own & reduce CO2 emissions by 80,000 tonnes.

Offshore wind turbines are getting bigger.... China has completed the installation of the largest wind turbine in the world - an 18 MW wind turbine. The feat was achieved by the Dongfang Electric Corporation, a state-owned manufacturer of power generators, on June 5 with a solitary turbine installed at a coastal test base in South China’s Guangdong province.  The turbine’s rotor diameter is 853 feet (260 m), and it sweeps an area of over 570,000 square feet (53,000 square meters), a little bigger than seven standard-sized football fields.  The company estimates that the turbine will generate 72 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy annually, sufficient to meet the energy demands of 36,000 households. More importantly, it will achieve this while preventing the burning 22,000 tonnes of coal and the release of 59,000 tonnes of carbon emissions. https://lnkd.in/dKb5j9ui

Exciting news from Taiwan's offshore wind sector ? The Seajacks Zaratan vessel has arrived on site and is ready to continue the campaign. After careful MP installation, seabed preparation and preparatory work, the 2024 Yunlin campaign is in full swing. The installation teams have been hard at work: 36 turbines and 56 foundations are already in place, as well as 53 transition pieces and 28 inner array grids & 12 export cables.
