Application: Fitted to Daisy 880 Fit & finish: Excellent, good, no burrs, all holes and threads complete, screws of good quality. Front lens came with complimentary but washable smudge. General impression: This item should be regarded as an "enhanced open scope", it's nice enough to help people who may have trouble with focus, but obviously the optics do not match more expensive scopes. Although the site picture is a little grey, the cross hairs are crisp and functional. Overall experience: When first installed my shots placed roughly 7" low,6" right. I used a .030" shim on rear dove tail, and a .020" shim in the rear scope ring which got me in the tune-able zone. From there the reticles adjusted and responded as expected. Contrary to many comments I read, I found moving the scope *away from my eye made an immediate improvement with shadow crowding and target acquisition. I ended up with a position much like the commercial illustrations with the reticle adjustment above the breach. In Summation: If you want the advantage of a scope to just get the darned thing on target and make your shot this will work. If you need to see the critter's eye ball with crystal clarity you'll need to spend a little more money. The product works for me and I can shoot predictable groupings.

If I remember correctly, this is the same scope I drooled over as a kid and finally convinced my dad to "splurge" and get it for me. I think it was $5 in 1974. It has no parallax adjustment. Cloudy optics. Darkest low-light scope I've ever looked through. Completely useless at dawn and dusk. In bright daylight, it's very effective out to 30 yards. Responsible for the killing of literally 1,000's of little green army men hiding in the sand box and ditch bank. Maybe 100's of sparrows and starlings, a few crows and even a rooster pheasant. Like the title says, I learned to shoot with it and, for many years it was my most prized possession. Wish I knew what happened to it. :)
