Replacementwheel bearing for a ford focus
It seems to be two parts. First is the wheel bearing itself and then the hub. Can I buy just the wheel bearing and install it on the existing hub? Is that prudent in the long run and how difficult is it to remove and attach the bearing to the hub?
I work M-F 9-5 and don't have the money for a rental car. If I have to keep driving on this bad bearing, how long can I do it and what are the ill effects? Will I be fine until next Saturday? It's been about a month so far (I did not know it was a wheel bearing issue until yesterday and it doesn't make much noise, just extra noise).
Like the post says, the front right wheel bearing on my Civic is bad. It's been making extra road noise (not grinding or squeaking, just extra road noise), especially around 55-60. I took it to Firestone and the diagnosis they gave me was a bad wheel bearing. Along with the diagnosis came a quote for $360 to do the repair. I'd prefer not to shell out the cash if I can just get the part and replace it myself. I don't have much car experience but my dad is willing to help out and is much wiser (and more equipped) than I am in this area. So I have a few questions.
Frontwheel bearing for a ford focus
If I absolutely must bring it to a mechanic, is $360 what I can expect to pay? (They quoted me for the bearing, the hub, and two hours of labor).
How difficult will this be? All of the guides and videos I've found are for Civics at least a decade old and from what I can see, the hub assembly changed in the 2006 model but no one has videos for that.
