I know Rule 2 says that this should go in the monthly thread but as this flat is about to go on offer, I was hoping for opinions sooner (hopefully this is ok!)

Wheel hub bearing

Structural engineering is the use of applied physics and mechanics to analyze and design man-made structures or objects to safely resist the loads imposed upon them.

I’m not looking for a definitive view but would like some opinions from people that know better than me as to whether you think it might be possible and if it is possible, it’s not prohibitive from a costs perspective. Eg if it would cost hundreds of thousands to do it, it’s probably not worth it.

I’m a bit torn because that pillar really bothers me. I don’t mind putting some cash together to get rid of it at some point but I just want to know it’s possible.

I viewed a flat today and there is a pillar in the middle of the kitchen. It’s load bearing. It’s a ground floor flat and I’m told all the possible building work that can happen has happened (ie side return). Estate agent couldn’t answer me whether the Sellers had thought of removing the pillar because it’s right in the middle of the kitchen.

I’d want to remove that pillar in the kitchen and put in a breakfast island. Reading around a bit, it seems like load bearing pillars can be removed but something (obvs) has to replace it.
