First of all thx to everyone for your advice on how to get the spindles off. The pulley puller worked great. The spindles have a zerk fitting on them. No instructions on how much or what kind of grease to use. Online information is split between “ 3-4 squirts” and “fill until it oozes out”. Lot of debate about damage that might be done to the sealed bearings by over filling. Others say the zerk only puts grease in the cavity between the upper and lower bearing . On and on. Nothing on the JD site that I could find. I did put 3-4 squirts in because I need to get the mower back into service. Your advice is welcome.
