LP15836-7   Gamma globulin Gamma globulins, or Ig's, are a class of serum proteins that can be identified by electrophoresis. The most significant gamma globulins are antibodies. Gamma globulin injections are sometimes given in an attempt to temporarily boost a patient's immunity. Injections are also given to patients who have been exposed to hepatitis A or measles and to patients who lack the ability to produce gamma globulins because of an immune deficiency, such as in X-linked agammaglobulinemia.
