Slewdrive
i'm not really mechanically inclined, and i've never had to have this done on any other cars i've owned so i don't really have a point of comparison, and i know labor at the dealership is going to be higher than at an independent shop, but this price seems like really really high. after a bit of googling it seems like the cost of this repair should run more like $500 - 600. the service advisor said it's about a 5 hour job because they have to take the front suspension apart (?). the specific service advisor who gave me this quote has tried to overcharge me for other repairs in the past and i've had to call him out on it so i am already a little suspicious of him. does this price seem legit to anyone who's had it done recently? or am i being fleeced? thanks!
Slewing bearing
i have a 2017 GTI SE with around 15k miles on it. i was experiencing the common symptoms of a bad wheel bearing, and when i brought my car in for service they confirmed it's the front passenger side bearing that needs to be replaced. the dealership shop is quoting me a price of close to $1100 (!!) just for the front passenger side wheel bearing. in the written estimate he gave me he has $600 for labor and around 350 for parts.
