The guidance describes enforcement policies, organized by clinical electronic thermometer type, that are intended to help foster compliance with certain applicable legal requirements for these devices. In conjunction with the issuance of this guidance, the FDA is proposing to exempt certain clinical electronic thermometers without telethermography or continuous temperature measurement functions from premarket notification requirements.
