MPART was established in 2017 to address the threat of PFAS contamination in Michigan, protect public health, and ensure the safety of Michigan’s land, air, and water, while facilitating inter-agency coordination, increasing transparency, and requiring clear standards to ensure accountability. MAHLE Engine Components, USA, Inc. – Former Harvey Street Muskegon Plant is located at 2051 South Harvey Street in Muskegon. The main activity at this plant was the production of engine parts, which included plating. There was a historic release of PFAS prior to 2011 from former plating operations to the groundwater.

There are two major classes of firefighting foam: Class A and Class B. Class B is also called Aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) and is usually created using PFAS. It is a highly effective foam used for fighting high-hazard flammable liquid fires, like gasoline, oil, and jet fuel.
