In the United States, bearing standard tolerances are presented to ANSI by the American Bearing Manufacturers Association (ABMA). ANSI is also the approving body of these standards.

Designed with grooves in the outer ring to offer more protection (than our L-type seal) against contamination and direct spray liquids. Liquid gets pushed out through outer grooves when in rotation.

Includes built-in ball bearing support. Supports MEDIUM loads & low to medium torque capacity: 53 to 267 Nm. Bore (ID) sizes: 17 to 40 mm (0.669 to 1.57 in)

For example, our Standards and RPM calculator uses ABEC tolerancing standards to map the dimensions needed for the shaft and housing.

When you hear words like, microns, deviation, or acronyms like ABEC, DIN, ANSI… Does your head spin? GMN Bearing USA is here to explain all the buzzwords that can leave you confused and help you understand what you need to know about bearing precisions.

There are usually large jumps in pricing when you go from an ABEC 3 to an ABEC 5, and then again from an ABEC 5 to an ABEC 7.

In engineering, the tolerance of the bearing is only half the equation. We have multiple calculators that help an engineer choose the right tolerance strategy for bearing mating components.

All the bearing standards organizations, including DIN and ISO, work together for a common goal of creating equivalent bearing tolerances worldwide. This goal is achieved when users can trust in the bearing standards and are able to successfully use precision bearings uniformly across many industries around the world.

This heavy-duty clutch (aka a hold-back clutch) is good for high torque operations and ensures motion freezes in place. Bore (ID) sizes: 15 to 40 mm. (0.59 to 1.73 in)

Apr 12, 2007 — Basic life or L10 as defined in ISO and ABMA standards is the life that 90% of a sufficiently large group of apparently identical bearings can ...

If you’re designing an application that has a tight tolerance requirement, high RPMs, and needs to operate reliably, then you probably don’t want to gamble with a low precision bearing.

The best protection for your bearing. Easy to install with a simple “drop-in” next to your bearing. No added space needed. CF seals offer 100% sealing efficiency against splashing liquids.

As an application reaches higher and higher RPM’s, every micron of parallelism, runout, surface profile, etc. all make a difference. To consistently run an application at high speeds, a precision bearing in an ABEC 7 class or higher is most certainly recommended.

Please note: Some bearing manufacturers have created their own customized and branded tolerance standards (like P4+), in this article we’re only focusing on internationally recognized standards.

When precision machining of bearings was just starting, only ABEC 1 bearings were consistently produced. As machining expertise and technology increased, so did the consistency and reliability. Now, ABEC 7 and ABEC 9 bearings are produced relatively easily.

Here’s an interesting tidbit regarding bearing precision classes vs. running capabilities: Every bearing has the potential to hit the same maximum RPM. The difference is: What percent of the time does this maximum RPM need to be reached during operation?

Bearing tolerancestandard

No built-in ball bearing support. Good for large orders & low to high torque needs: 1 to 2673 Nm. Bore (ID) sizes: 2 to 240 mm (0.078 to 9.448 in)

No built-in ball bearing support. Has no RPM limits & Supports high torque needs: 609 to 14,060 Nm. Bore (ID) sizes: 38.09 to 220 mm (1.499 to 8.66 in)

The first thing to understand is bearing precision classes and what they mean. There are 3 main precision regulatory ratings, ABEC, DIN, and ISO. They each have their unique origins, but thankfully they all currently align pretty well. There is a table below outlining how they correspond to each other. A couple of the best aspects about having these precision classes, is it gives the user confidence in what they are buying and the ability to compare products.

In the United States, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) oversees standards and conformity systems. The Annular Bearing Engineering Committee (ABEC) is an industry-accepted standard for the tolerances of a ball bearings.

Genuine Spicer light vehicle axle products are manufactured to the same high standards as original equipment (OE) parts because they are OE parts.

Precision bearing tolerance classes include standards for form, fit, function, and correlated running characteristics of bearings.

Here is the DIN & ISO 492 scale from loose to tight, respectively: P0, P6, P5, P4, P3, and P2. And ISO 492: Class Normal, Class 6, Class 5, Class 4, Class 2.

GMN only produces high precision bearings, ABEC 7 and above. These are at the top of the precision classes and are manufactured with the strictest tolerances, allowing dimensions to deviate by only microns.

Our GMN Gap Seals are plastic and a great choice for washdown applications, such as food conveyors and food manufacturing facilities
