The Hawaii Community Development Authority (HCDA) has partnered with Kanoa Winds to bring Japanese clean energy technology to Kakaako Makai and study its feasibility in the islands by operating a wind turbine for research and demonstration purposes. The turbine technology - known as the Vertical Coaxial Contra-Rotating Twin Blades (VCCT) wind turbine - has been used throughout Japan for more than 15 years near transportation hubs, attached to industrial facilities, and in residential mixed-use communities. According to the partners, the VCCT is able to generate power at a significantly wider range of wind speeds than traditional horizontal-axis wind turbines, such as those currently in operation in Kahuku on the North Shore of O'ahu. Specifically, the VCCT can operate at wind speeds between 7 and 134 mph, whereas traditional horizontal-axis wind turbines typically stop generating power at wind speeds of about 44 mph. For this project, Kanoa Winds will install a 0.5 kW VCCT unit near the Hawaii Technology Development Corporation Entrepreneur Sandbox to conduct an in-depth study of its wind speed power generation, equipment load, stability tests, safety evaluation, wildlife impact, and environmental assessment. The unit is shorter than a typical street light and will be erected within a footprint of about 24 sq ft. “The VCCT wind turbines in Japan have been known to have birds nesting within the device, proving the safety and coexistence between the birds and the VCCT technology,” explained Kanoa Winds Founder and CEO Kaname Takeya. “The Japan Falconiformes Center has endorsed the technology due to its safety and reliability while having minimal impact on the environment.” To save energy & cost for your business, contact me at https://buff.ly/2EjAMbu. #Reliability #EnergyStorage #EnergyEfficiency #Renewables #EnergyAudit #Procurement #Resilience https://buff.ly/463SUB6

Imagine small islands of floating wind walls. A kind of wind trap located in the sea, away from the coast and the eyes, can offer twice the area wiped by the most significant commercial air generators. ? The project exists and is signed by the Norwegian startup Wind Catching Systems (WCS).  ? The company, founded in 2017, presented its particular offshore wind generator just a few years ago and today is jumping for the big step: realising the first demonstration project in a natural environment.  ? A target that is closer today having received in June 2024 the approval of principle (AiP) from DNV.  ? “Over the last six months, our team has focused on further maturing the technology through optimising the 40 MW Windcatcher design,” explains WCS in a press release. “A key milestone has been the principal approval by DNV, and we are pleased to announce that this milestone has been achieved.” ⬇️ Link in the first comment #RinnovabiliNET #environmnent #greeneconomy #solar #eolic #energy #greenenergy #solarenergy #windenergy #sustainable #sustainablity #sustainabledevelopment

#ORE4CITIZENS, the project formed by BCAM, TECNALIA Research & Innovation, Universidad del País Vasco/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea/EHU, and Euskampus Fundazioa, brings wind energy to families at Ereaga Beach. ? ? Ereaga Beach, in Getxo, became a mini wind farm on Saturday, September 14th. 32 families, accompanied by researchers and volunteers, were able to build their own wind turbines and better understand the challenges of offshore wind power, how wind turbines are installed at sea, why some are fixed and others floating, among many other curiosities. ❗ This activity is part of the various OREgunak events that the project will organize throughout the year with the following objectives: ✅ To raise awareness about the effects of climate change on our coast. ✅ To show the role of marine renewable energies in the fight against climate change. ✅ To highlight the leadership of the Basque industry in this sector on a global level and the opportunity it represents for society and the planet.   https://lnkd.in/d8cAzEDm

A historic milestone for renewable energies! ? Friday, April 26, 2024 was a perfect day for renewable energies and EnerKíte: "Flugwindenergieanlagen" (airborne wind energy systems) were incorporated into national legislation for the energy transition for the first time. This marks a groundbreaking step for the industry and for EnerKíte. ?️ Simultaneously, EnerKíte celebrated a triumphant success: the inaugural flight of the innovative high-performance wing in ultra-light grid-shell construction was successfully completed – under particularly challenging wind conditions. Despite low wind and strong gusts from varying directions, the EnerKíte system demonstrated its robustness and reliability. ? Thanks to the interplay of the rigid high-performance wing, sturdy ground station, and the precise EnerKíte autopilot, the system demonstrated that it can perform a perfectly controlled flight even under the most difficult conditions. This confirms the potential of airborne wind energy systems as a safe and efficient solution for the future. ? Experience this technological revolution and the impressive flight maneuvers in our latest video. Enjoy watching! ? ECORES WIND is set to make significant strides in the wind energy sector by advancing the development of sustainable materials and processes. ? Wind farms have a finite operational lifetime. For the oldest wind farms this is typically in the area of 15 – 25 years. As the European wind turbine fleet ages, a solution for EoL is paramount. Many of Europe’s onshore wind farms are approaching the end of their planned operational lifetime. ? The key objective of ECORES WIND is the development of circular resin systems that enhance the recyclability and sustainability of wind turbine blades and incorporation of advanced disassembly strategies to ensure that wind turbine blades can be decommissioned, and their materials reused efficiently. Read more about our initiative here: https://lnkd.in/dJW8JvrD #HorizonEU #ECORESWIND #resins #composites #circularity #windblades #windenergy #sustainability This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement No. 101148066.
