The Third Avenue (then known as Powers Street) horsecar service started in 1868 from Fulton Ferry to Wyckoff Street, running on Livingston Street and Third Avenue. In 1872, the line was extended down Third Avenue to 24th Street, and over to Greenwood Cemetery. When the line was electrified on November 7, 1892, it was feasible to continue it all the way to Fort Hamilton. The streetcar was operated by the Brooklyn City Railroad.
