Widespread weather impacts have also impeded access to some areas. PG&E crews and resources are responding safely and as quickly as possible to storm-related outages; there are approximately 5,700 personnel involved in our storm response. This response includes staging power poles, powerlines, transformers and other electric equipment in key locations throughout our service area to restore power to affected areas safely and as quickly as possible. Around 11:00 a.m. on December 14, a peak of approximately 216,000 customers were without power. Over the course of the storm system and as of 4 p.m. Saturday, PG&E restored more than 271,770 customers across the service area — about 88% within six hours.

What is a wheel bearing? A wheel bearing is a set of steel balls enclosed by a metal ring, and is positioned on a metal axle shaft within the hub. Wheel hubs are the mounting assemblies at the centre of each wheel, holding the bolts that attach the tyre to the wheel. The wheel hubs and bearing need to be kept in good condition, as they support the weight of the vehicle, and help make sure your wheels can fully rotate as you drive. Why do my front tyres make loud noises when I drive? If your wheel hubs are dented, you might notice a grinding noise or vibration as you turn the corner. A worn wheel bearing is caused by friction, so you're more likely to hear this noise as your car picks up speed. You might also notice a thumping or knocking sound, which is caused by the wheel bearing rotating too loosely. Can you drive with a bad wheel bearing? A worn or poorly-aligned wheel bearing can make your steering feel loose or your car to pull to one side, so it can be very dangerous to drive once you notice an unusual noise. If you notice a thumping noise on one side of your car, you could be at risk of losing a wheel. Are wheel bearings easy to fix? Wheel bearings are subject to wear and tear, as well as rust over time. Once your wheel bearing has worn down, it will need to be replaced. While you can do this yourself with the right tools, it's always best to leave it to the experts if you're unsure.

December 9, 2024 at 8:42 AM Starting December 9, 2024, Terra Fuego Resources Foundation, in partnership with American Rivers, will begin implementing prescribed fire activities as part of the Hoyt-Purdon Fuel Reduction and Prescribed Fire Project. Prescribed pile burning and broadcast burning will occur on ~80 acres 3 miles northwest of Nevada City off of Augustine Rd. Prescribed fire activities are anticipated to occur over approximately 5 days (~Dec. 13th) or until precipitation occurs, followed by a period of post-burn mop-up and monitoring to ensure fuels are extinguished. Operational periods are 9am to 8pm daily.

December 14, 2024 at 9:55 PM Not our neck of the woods, but a very rare occurrence in California worth noting: A team from the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area conducted a storm survey in Scotts Valley. The team identified a swath of tornadic damage that began near the intersection of Mount Hermon Rd and Lockewood Ln and continued southeast along Mount Hermon Rd until just short of Kings Village Rd. A wide range of damage was observed including: downed trees, downed power poles, trees stripped of branches, numerous overturned vehicles, and damaged street signs. Based on these damage indicators the survey team assessed a maximum wind speed of 90 mph, which is a weak EF1 tornado.
