Rolling bearings can generally be divided into two types: Ball bearings and roller bearings. Ball bearings are mainly suitable for applications with high speeds because their rolling elements (balls) contact the bearing raceway at one point (point contact). However, they have a lower load carrying capacity than roller bearings. Roller bearings, on the other hand, are characterised by a high load carrying capacity, but are more suitable for applications with lower speeds. Their rolling elements (rollers) contact the bearing raceway in a line (line contact). On bearingwizard.co.uk you will find information on deep groove ball bearings, angular contact ball bearings, cylindrical roller bearings, spherical roller bearings, tapered roller bearings, needle roller bearings, insert bearings and bearing housings. A general overview of the rolling bearing types can be found here.
