A Clymer native has been named the recipient of this year's Dan Feather Memorial Award. The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Academy at Jamestown Community College recently awarded recruit Matthew White with the award, which is presented annually to a Chautauqua County resident attending the Sheriff's Academy who is noted for their professionalism and character. This year's award is $1,400. White is the 27th recipient of the Dan Feather Memorial Scholarship. He graduated from Clymer Central School in 2021 and JCC in 2023, earning an Associate's degree in criminal justice with high honors. He was accepted into the Sheriff's Academy in June. Verna Feather created the scholarship to honor her husband, the late Dan Feather, and help those beginning to pursue a career in police work.

A Jamestown woman faces multiple charges following a report of unwanted subjects at a residence on the city's north side early Friday. Jamestown Police say the report, which was called in just before 2:15 AM, stemmed from an incident at the Wine Cellar in the downtown area. Officers say they were speaking with two individuals involved, when 43-year-old Mary Mowell picked up a dumbbell and charged at an officer and the two individuals. Mowell was quickly subdued by officers and taken into custody without further incident. She was transported to the Jamestown City Jail and charged with obstruction, resisting arrest and unnecessary noise. Due to New York State's bail reform law, Mowell was given an appearance ticket to appear in Jamestown City Court at a later date.

Man dies in fatal house fire in Brocton... A fire that began in the basement area of a home in the village of Brocton early Christmas morning has resulted in the death of a man living there. County fire dispatchers say Brocton firefighters were called to the scene at 94 Old Mill Rd. shortly after 5 a.m. It was during the course of putting out the blaze that the deceased man's body was found inside. He has not been identified. Multiple mutual aid companies were called in to assist. Once the fire was out... the county's Fire Investigation Team was called in... and, determined the fire began in the ceiling area of the basement. The exact cause is still being determined.

The routine stop escalated into a drug investigation resulting in the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of a large quantity of controlled substances.
